Welcome to Pegasus Gallery!

ART - BOOKS - GIFTS

Pegasus Gallery in Bishop was founded in 2001. The owner had always loved an old building on East South Street, and that was where she created the first "stable" for her Pegasus. After a lot of clean-up and refurbishing, a group of local artists broke the space in with a group weekend show in November. Painters, weavers, stained glass workers, photographers, writers, silversmiths, and sculptors were all there. A local musician, a drummer who plays guitar and banjo, made music for our first audience about the same time, accompanied by a belly dancer!

In the summer of 2004, Pegasus moved onto Bishop, California's Main Street; this is actually  Highway 395 the only road on the east side of California by which you can travel from Los Angeles north to Reno, Nevada. Since then, Pegasus has been extremely busy, showing and selling art, books, and collectibles to Inyo and Mono County residents and to visitors from around the world.

But, believe me, it's been a challenge to survive. I knew at the beginning that people joked about a gallery owner having to be rich; but I am an optimist. Could I substitute positive thoughts and plans for money? Ah, ah, ah....

I've been trying to figure out how I wanted to present Pegasus on this website since February 2007, and it's now August 2007. Time to introduce myself and tell you why it's taken so long! My name is Eva Poole-Gilson; I am a writer and teacher as well as a gallery owner, and it's only this morning that I decided this website would have to reflect my eclectic, usually good, and broad taste if it would ever see the light of day.... I used this website design program in teaching an online class (Multi-Ethnic American Lit.) for the College here, but that was nearly seven years ago. I confess that I didn't enjoy that much; it seemed insane to me to attempt to discuss the crux issues of existence on this kind of vanishing page. I missed voices, facial expressions, sighs, and long, late-night discussions after hours....

So I'll create this as I can, blogging some. Readers and visitors will be asked to respond by email if they like and eventually I'll learn how to set this up so maybe an almost-alive-feeling chatroom can be born.       Also, artists who've shown or read or played at Pegasus will be given the opportunity to create their own pages here, and links.

Thus I approach this as an experiment in creativity....

A few weeks ago I drove to Bonhams Auction House in San Francisco to have a painting by Antoine Blanchard authenticated. It looks like it will be on auction in November. Recently I also sent two Peter Max lithographs to the second largest seller of  Peter Max work in the world.... I'm beginning to broker art, reputed valuable, somehow contemporarily "classic."

Much of the artwork presently on sale directly through Pegasus is from younger artists, not yet as well known. Ah, but give them time.... Most of them are from the High Sierra where the Gallery is located. Eventually you will be able to visit our list of artists and see samples of their work, most ready for purchase.

Please email me with comments or questions and suggestions.
